Potty Training Consultant

Is Your Child Struggling to Progress with Potty-Training?

Are You Unsure of When or How to Approach the Process?

Potty-training can feel very intimidating, for kids and parents alike, but it doesn't have to be! With a few tips and tricks you can avoid the common obstacles that make the process harder than it needs to be. Together we can lay out how to best get started and/or troubleshoot any issues you are already experiencing.

We work with the parents of children who are still diapered 24/7 as well as children who are struggling to ditch diapers and become accident-free after months or years of training.

Here are some common questions and challenges we support families to resolve:

* How can you resolve your child's sudden or chronic constipation or withholding?

* Could there be an underlying physical or medical obstacle to progress?

* Should you potty-train both night and day together?

* Is your child ready for potty-training

* Is it okay to go back and forth with diapers or pull-ups while training?

* Why will they pee but not poop on the potty?!

* Why are they still having SO many accidents?!

* How will this work at daycare?

* Should you use a potty seat or the big toilet?

* How long will potty-training take?!

* How will they take their new skill on the go? To daycare or preschool?

Take the guesswork out of this major milestone and get your child on the path to success with a package of support from our Oh Crap! Potty-Training Certified Experts.

Meet the Potty-Training Team!

Hi! I'm Erica Desper, senior sleep and potty-training consultant and the founder of Confident Parenting. I've been helping families get more sleep and tackle potty-training since 2011 and, in that time, we've been privileged to help over 2,000 babies and children in and around the Greater Philadelphia area, across the states and internationally to sleep soundly so their parents can too. As the sleep specialist for Center City Pediatrics and with a growing army of grateful parents in the community, it became clear that, as just one person, I couldn't support everyone. And our team was born!...

Bernadette is a Mother of two young children and brings over 12 years of experience working with families as a professional nanny to our team. Her desire to continue to help parents navigate common parenting challenges led her to join the Confident Parenting team in 2020, training and being mentored for over one year with Erica as well as receiving her Oh Crap! potty-training consultant certification with Jamie Glowacki, The Poop Lady, herself. To date she has worked with the parents of over 300 babies and children to address sleep and potty-training challenges and has wracked up loads of her own glowing testimonials. In 2022 and 2023 she received the designation of Certified Lactation Counselor and completed Dr. Laura Markham's Peaceful Parenting Training for Parent Educators.

Amelia is Mom to one young child, holds a bachelors degree in psychology and brings over 4 years of experience working with children in the daycare and therapy settings. In 2021 she joined the Confident Parenting team, training and being mentored for over one year with Erica, receiving her own Oh Crap! certification and working toward certification as a lactation counselor. She is also auntie to several children with varying special needs, all of which led her to gain additional experience and training to be able to support children with delays, disabilities and neurodivergence to navigate the potty-training process, completing the Autism Action Plan course led by Molly Johnson, the Autism Consultant. Families navigating the process with special needs have been extremely grateful to finally have somewhere to turn for support.

If you need support to approach or troubleshoot the potty learning process, you can purchase a support package with one of our consultants by scrolling down to "support options" below.  If you feel unsure whether your child is ready or want to hear more about our approach, read our frequently asked questions or if your child is 5 years or older, we suggest starting with a discovery call so we can ensure our support is the right fit.

Confident Parenting has teamed up with Carly Rosenthal of Enliven OT to help ensure we don't overlook the possibility of any underlying obstacles to toilet training progress and success. Our Until You Reach Your Goals package includes a 30 minute virtual coaching call with Carly to share basic recommendations supporting potty training and explore the potential need referral to OT and or pelvic floor therapy services with resource recommendations if needed.

Carly is an occupational therapist located in Philadelphia, PA who’s passionate about helping people become their most confident and continent self. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson’s Occupational Therapy program in 2019. Since then, she has worked in various settings, including pediatric inpatient rehabilitation, schools, early intervention and long-term care facilities.

Her experience working with children spans a range of ages from infants and toddlers to older kids and teens, assisting with a variety of complex medical conditions and diagnoses. Although she loves helping children with their pelvic floor dysfunction, she is especially enthusiastic about assisting both children and adults who face challenges with neurogenic bowel and bladder. She has substantial experience in helping individuals with spinal dysfunction attain functional continence.
